With the outcome of the European Champions League draws which
pitched the English Premier League side, Arsenal FC against an A-Star studded Spanish side Barcelona FC,
pundits believe this is final bus stop for the Gunners as far as this season's
Champions league is concerned. Barcelona defeated Arsenal in all last three seasons they have
met. Do I think otherwise?
Frankly, I do not think so. Over the weekend
Barcelona blew up a two goal lead to draw with Deportivo Lacoruna. This shows Barcelona is not invincible. They
have their down time just like every other team have their good time.
Admittedly, the odds are against Arsenal but even at 90/10 Barcelona
can still fall.
Arsenal, currently,
is in top form and cannot be pushed over. Their advancement to this level of
the competition was earned. So Barcelona should expect a good fight from Arsenal.
In other
draws , Unstable Manchester City
will be up against Dynamo Kiev, that sent them out of the 2010/11 Europa
league 2-1 on aggregate .
However, Kiev will be without their home fans when they take
on Manchester City. No thanks to the
racist attack against Chelsea fans during a group match.
Another, English side, Chelsea will meet Paris Saint Germaine. Both
sides meet in the last two seasons have been decided on away goals rules while they have drawn together for the third consecutive
season
Roma is grossly at disadvantage against Real Madrid. They
won just one out of eight encounters since 2001.
PSV Eindhoven against
Atletico Madrid. The odds favours Atletico Madrid. They won home and in away duringthe 2008/09.
Benfica of Portugal host
the Russian side Zenit.
The second Italian side in the race, last year finalist, Juventus , will square up against a German side,
Bayern Munchen.
And Gent (Belgium) takes on Wolfsburg(Germany)
