Ex Eagles player Ene Okon dies on his birthday, as the football community mourn

Etim John Esin wrote on his Facebook page: “What a sad news, my teammate, John Okon Ene passed on today (Tuesday), Calabar Rovers, Chile 87, Super Eagles, God knows best, RIP.”
“My tears run endless ever since the news broke to me early hours of this morning (Tuesday). We shared so many times and moments together, pained and heart-broken I am, but what is the answer to the question I ask and want to ask ‘why you, why now’? Who do I question man or the good Lord?
“Pained as I am all glory to God for the times we shared together.
“Adieu my friend, good bye great player.
“Atom ant, midfield maestro, small but mighty, entertainer extra ordinary, Oworowo, Agbakpan, sinkpukpuru etc. JOHN ENE OKON.” Amapakabor wrote on his Facebook page.
“Rest Peacefully, John Ene Okon, my Senegal ’92 teammate. So long, soldier. We’re gonna miss your diligence and penetrating passes. May God rest your animated soul,” Emeka Ezeugo commented on Facebook.
Salisu Nakande wrote on Facebook: “What a great lost, we all have to take heart n pray for him, he is a friend indeed, my condolences.”
The late midfielder, John Okon played for Nigeria at the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile in 1987 and the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the Senegal 1992 AFCON.
