Nigerian Troops Dealt a Blow on Boko Haram, Arrest Gun Runner
“Troops met stiff resistance” and three were injured during an operation to clear the district of Dure, Colonel Sani Usman, an army spokesman, said Sunday in an e-mailed statement. They “killed several terrorists” and destroyed grain-storage facilities, he said.
The injured soldiers are in stable condition, Usman said.
Intelligence officials arrested Musa Abubakar, a “major gun fabricator, arms runner and a covert linkman” for Boko Haram, the State Security Service said in an e-mailed statement on Saturday.
Nigeria’s government says it’s making progress in its battle against Boko Haram, which has waged a violent seven-year campaign, mainly in the northeast of the country, to impose its version of Islamic law on Africa’s largest economy.
